Campeones de Game
We took on the task of celebrating Latinx Heritage Month with the local community of South Gate with an activation inspired by the traditional Mexican fiesta - Gran Kermes.
Experience: Community Activation
Pillars: Consulting Partnerships, Production Services
The Challenge
Champs & Eastbay wanted to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month with the community and students of South Gate through both the sport and the culture. Safety was also a key priority for the brand, community, and our team.
The Solution
Careful thought and intention went into curating community partners who had hearts and missions local to the South Gate community to bring together a Kermes festival inspired by the game of fútbol for wonderful student athletes from South Gate High School. Bringing together culture, fashion, food, sport, e-gaming, and more to offer accessible activities for the students to learn about the culture and diversify their experiences. A hands on tie-dye station allowed the students to get their hands dirty to create their own fashion style, national champions from the Southern California Foosball Association joined us to bring the same competitive energy from the soccer field, freestyler performers taught the students some new tricks they can show off on the field, ComWorks came out to introduce many of the students to healthy gaming for the first time, and local restuarant Gloria’s provided delicious and healthy food for all the guests.
Fútbol in the Latinx community plays a major cultural role as a sport that both inspires kids and brings families & countries together. We set out to bring students, families, community partners and friends together through the game and we were privileged to watch these exact moments unfold in front of us.
