NFL Super Bowl Experience Art Mural

Where Art Meets Sports Meets Social Good

Experience: Art Installation With Impact

Pillars: Consulting Partnerships, Production Services, Cultural Stewardship

The Challenge

NFL’s AAPI employee resource group, Asian Professional Exchange (APEX), wanted to find a way to engage the local AAPI community with its LVI Super Bowl happening in Los Angeles. The goal was to create a touchpoint where the community can feel seen and represented while also creating a moment that has a lasting impact beyond just the installation.

The Solution

GreatCo connected with Bernard Chang, a Los Angeles-based AAPI artist and designer best known for his work in the comic book and entertainment design industries working with DC Comics and Walt Disney Imagineering, to create an original artwork piece that was displayed at the Super Bowl Experience (SBX) Presented by Lowe’s. Bernard has also been a longtime fan of football and brought together his passion for the sport with inspirations from traditional Peking opera masks to create an extremely unique piece integrating the expressive designs into the helmets of all 32 NFL teams. The mural was extremely well received by the attendees of SBX, generating attention, interest, and conversation from members of all communities.

In the interest of creating a lasting impact, graphics prints of the artwork were auctioned on NFL Auction for 3 weeks after the installation, with all auction proceeds going toward the following non-profit organizations serving LA’s Asian & Pacific Islander (API) communities: Super Bowl LVI Legacy Program Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) and the Stand With Asians Community Fund.
